dor thinking

Im not one to believe conspiracies, but didnt all the hoopla about the 'Hot Coffee' mini game in GTA: SA come out right around the release of the Xbox port? Coincidence?

Heres the thing, though. Whoever in the government's up in arms over the sex in this game is a hypocrite. Government members seem to be overwhelmingly pro-Life, and yet, they get REALLY upset about sex in video games. Sex acts are the only 'natural' way of conceiving said life. On the other hand, violence, which seems to bother them less, most of the time ends life. So why are they up in arms over the sex and not the violence?

Something to put in your virtual crack pipe and smoke. Or something.

Im seriously pissed about the state of our home sale, but thats no big news. Down the street is going for $509K, but its a bit bigger square footage. And the big deal that George thought he was gonna land decided our house was too small, so they went for another, so we are back to square 0 ... again. No big surprise there, however.

Ive been watching a lot of Gungrave lately, mostly to get it off my PVR. Interesting series .. not sure that I will buy the rest of it on DVD having seen over half of it now. I do need to continue watching Chrono Crusade. Three volumes untouched ... although Ive found myself reading the manga a lot lately, and one seems to feed the other.

Ive also become very much the little ESPN whore of late. I got sucked into their afternoon lineup ever since they added NFL Live to it. Now I watch that and the subsequent shows, Jim Rome is Burning, Around the Horn, Pardon The Interruption, and Sportscenter. Jim Rome is an opinionated little shit, but I like what he has to say somehow. ATH and PTI are equally annoying, and yet, somehow entertaining. And Sportscenter is what it is ... and it has been for years. Hell, I remember watching Sportscenter with my brothers when they were little kids, and theyre in their mid 20s now.

The whole Raffi thing has me half laughing, half disgusted. On the one hand, the guy purports to not take performance enhancing drugs, and yet hes the national spokesperson for Viagra. If you cant find the humor in that piece of irony ... which makes me wonder if its the Viagra that made him test positive. And the disgusting part is that he claims he was tainted, and yet, hes hiding behind this confidentiality bullshit and not talking. If you think someone doped you, dumbass, why not try to out the bastard? Makes you look like an even bigger asshole than you are.

Of course, that these millionaire ballers continue to use steroids in the face of the tougher sanctions -- not that theyre that tough; ten days is bullshit; Kenny Rogers got 20 *games* for roughing up the cameramen, after all -- tells me one of two things: theyre complete dumbasses and dont know whats in their protein shakes and are unwittingly doping themselves, or theyre so arrogant that they think they wont get caught ... or maybe some of each. Its a big league, after all.

And dont even get me STARTED about Barry Bonds. You think its any coincidence that the day Raffi tests positive for steroids is the day old Barry decides we aint gonna see him this season? Yeah ... he did it just to take the heat off Raffi ... NOT. I dont know what to think now. Maybe it is that his knees really ARE that bad ... in which case he needs to seriously consider just giving up on the record, which, lets face it, is gonna be tainted cause of the suspicion hanging around Bonds like the fog monster clings to San Francisco. Or maybe he just cant face life post-juice and doesnt want to come back and be half the hitter he used to be. Who the fuck knows. Im sick of hearing about him already.

The whole steroid thing makes me suspicious of baseball. These guys will get into the Hall on their numbers, but they need to stick a big fat asterisk on the whole era. Bleh.

Whoops, big tangent there. And I dont even *like* baseball ... imagine if this was about football. =O

But now that I mention football ... TO is the whiniest little bitch ever, or he was until someone, maybe Drew 'the devil except when he does CPR on drowned little kids' Rosenhaus finally convinced him to shut the fuck up and let his agent do his talking for him ... thats what hes PAID for, after all. I mean, I agree that the whole system football has in place with respect to contracts is bullshit. A team can nullify a player's deal and send them packing with no recourse for the player, but the player cant dare to renegotiate their deal.

But something about how TO is approaching it makes him look like a spoiled little kid, ESPECIALLY when he pulled out Sprewell's "I cant take care of my family" excuse. Look, TO, if you cant take care of your family on $49 million or whatever the fuck the Eagles are paying you, your family has got some serious problems, k? And personally, I think Westbrook holding out is a big concern, as big or bigger than the TO nonsense. Hope they get that resolved soon if it hasnt been already.

Whee ... looks like Im becoming as big a bitch as Jim Rome. Excuse me while I go deflate my head and get off the sports thing as its so out of character for me. o_O

I think Im going to go to the bookstore. I want to look up a bit about gastric bypass -- I know, I can find the info online, but theres something about sitting in the bookstore and holding the book in my hands that appeals, not to mention that I said I was gonna spend the day out -- and check on the next volumes of my various mangas. Besides, after writing such a huge sports tangent, its clear I need to get away from the computer and the TV and 'burn' on something else for a while.

Palmeiro might as well quit denying it and shut up and just take the stupid suspension. I was saddened to hear that Torii Hunter would be out for the season, though.

Hes the guy who landed funny off the wall and fractured his ankle and strained some tendons, isnt he? Yeah, that kinda sucks.

As for Palmeiro, it sounds like hes taking his suspension. But if he really thinks that he took this stuff accidently, he ought to disclose the details for his own good. Dumbass.

Yeah that's Hunter. I really like him too.

Barry Bonds's glory days are over, he might as well accept that. Poor guy.

Well, like I said, either his knees ARE that bad, and he shouldnt come back, or hes not juiced anymore and hes going to be a shadow of his former self. Either way, hes pretty much screwed. And no matter whether he took steroids or not, hes gonna have that cloud hanging over him. Bleah.

AWESOME! XD

Of course, promiscuity is "bad", so that kinda kills your argument. But, hey, promiscuity leads to more life, so you may have something there, after all =P

The fact remains that they should be upset about the violence as well ... I mean, look at how they jumped up and down about Mortal Kombat. I guess violence in video games is so LAST century or something. o_O

I really don't feel like repeating myself again about Rockstar, so I'll respond to your conspiracy theory:

I don't think even Rockstar would be so stupid as to potentially drag Congress into the debate in the name of a little publicity.

One would hope so, but this isnt the first time theres been a huge media controversy about a Rockstar title right around its release, now, is it? Maybe its just unfortunate circumstances on Rockstar's part ...

You know, despite all of the debate and wishy-washy crap with the media, have you actually seen Hot Coffee?. It's remarkably tame; hardly worth all of the outcry it's getting and not at all a worthy comparison to the ceaseless violence in video games today(including that very title).

Regardless, Hillary lost whatever potential for a vote she might have had prior to this. In my book, anyway. o.o

My own opinions on Hot Coffee aside (which match those of most gamers: lot of fuss over nothing), I doubt it was a Rockstar conspiracy. One source cited Take 2's losses over the whole thing at 40-50 million. I doubt anybody's willing to get their publisher into that much financial trouble over a little name gain. More likely, whizkids were able to unlock the "sex scenes" (if they deserve that name) in the PC version and once they figured out there how to do it, it was an easy step to figure it out for the consoles next.

I'm not convinced Rockstar lied either. The people making the statements may well genuinely not have known that that code was still lingering in the game, nor that it could be so easily activated. Bottom line is that Rockstar and the gaming industry as a whole have learned a big lesson, and people with a long history of making fools of themselves have done so yet again.
